The challenge

Al Noor Supermarket runs three neighbourhood stores in Sharjah with around 18,000 products each. Evening and weekend queues regularly reached ten customers per lane because cashiers keyed in loose produce by hand and the old tills slowed down whenever the product database was updated. Shoppers complained, and the owners saw baskets abandoned near the exit.

Behind the scenes, stock was counted on paper and typed into an accounting package days later. Shelf prices often lagged behind head office price changes, and near-expiry perishables were discovered too late. Management had no live view of sales or margin by branch.

The solution

POS Emirates installed four new checkout lanes per store with 15-inch touch terminals, omnidirectional 2D scanners, integrated lane scales and Epson receipt printers, all connected to our POS & Billing Software with offline mode. Label scales in the produce and deli sections now print price-embedded barcodes that scan instantly.

Inventory Management Software replaced the paper counts. Goods are received by scanning at the back door, purchase orders are generated from reorder suggestions, and expiry alerts drive automatic markdowns. Price changes made at head office print new shelf labels in each store and appear on the aisle price checker. Our team migrated the product master, trained 26 cashiers over two evenings and went live branch by branch over three weeks.

28%
Less perishable wastage in the first quarter

Rollout timeline

  1. Week 1: store surveys, network upgrade and product master migration.
  2. Week 2: branch one live with on-site support for three trading days.
  3. Week 3: branches two and three live, central pricing enabled.
  4. Week 6: first cycle counts and expiry markdown rules activated.

What changed for the team

  • Cashiers scan and weigh in one motion; loose items no longer need PLU codes typed by hand.
  • The store manager receives goods by scanning and approves purchase orders on a tablet.
  • Owners check sales, margin and wastage per store on their phones every morning.
"We expected faster tills. We did not expect to finally trust our stock numbers." — Khalid Al Mansoori, Operations Manager
Checkout used to be our biggest complaint. After POS Emirates installed the new lanes and inventory system, queues dropped and our stock counts finally match the shelves.
